From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Crimes of the Heart, comes the breathtaking tall tale of Bess and Macon, two mail-order brides lured to the plains of Wyoming by the promise of new beginnings. Beth Henley's fierce and funny adventure spans a 25 year friendship as wild and unpredictable as the untamed West itself, unearthing along the way, the dark underside of American mythology and the unbreakable bonds of female friendship.

There is a new immersive realm for the senses online, a virtual playground where those who plug in are coaxed into acting out their darkest fantasies--with no consequences in the "real" world. Or so it seems... until a young female detective begins an investigation to determine if there is a point at which thought or intention may actually constitute a crime within--and outside of--this new frontier.

Winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, Jennifer Haley's The Nether is a haunting thriller that will make you question when the fantastic becomes too real.

Can there be laughter in the healing process? The lives of survivors, perpetrators, and bystanders weave together in a wickedly funny and piercingly insightful one woman show about a community trying to heal after a sexual assault. In Post Traumatic Super Delightful (PTSD), the personal is political, the political is personal. And the person is a clown.

MTWorks celebrates today's innovative playwrights who boldly take risks in theme, structure, time-period, location and diversity (ethnic, economic, geographic, gender, sexuality or creed). MTWorks' mainstage productions are selected from the NewBorn Festival winners.

CFP: Feminism & Curatorial Strategy

Call for Papers: Feminism & Curatorial Strategy

Southeast College Art Conference

October 21-24, 2015

Pittsburgh, PA

Deadline: April 20, 2015

It is listed below and also on page 20 of the Call for Papers here:

Feminism & Curatorial Strategy: Feminist art research has been investigating art history theory and recorded significant women and other marginalized artists since the 1970s. Feminist activists continue to recognize the underrepresentation of artists who are women and minorities in collections, art sales and exhibitions in museums and gallery representation nationwide. As the statistics continue to wane for women and minorities in the arts, feminism is re-emerging as a key critical strategy in art practice, theory and curating. This discussion seeks to address how institutions small and large choose to or resist integrating feminism into their curatorial/exhibition strategies directly through mission statements and collection plans, or less overtly through organization, display and interpretation. This panel calls on scholars working across historical, modern and contemporary art exhibition curatorial strategies who are informed by a feminist perspective. We are looking to identify ways curators are using feminism to inform their methodology whether in the installation, promotion, and/or didactics of exhibitions in large institutions and smaller galleries; and how this is developing feminist and art history discourse in the twenty-first century. Tuesday, February 24 | 7:00 pm

In the media today you often read about how biased the arts still are. Female producers and directors are an anomaly even now, and don't even think about female technicians. So let's change it. Let's bring together all the smart talented women we know (and ones we don't), put us all in one space, and get some s**t done!

The plan: Drinks!

Most independent projects start out as just that: an idea over coffee or cocktails that then grows into a fully realized production. For thousands of years that's the way women have moved the world: get everyone together for some social time and let's talk.

So we're starting an event once a month that brings together women from all over the arts. We'll find a bar, hunker down and just see what happens.

No agendas, no plans, just drinks with the girls.

Please join us for our kickoff night (our first one got snowed out last month):

Tuesday, February 24th, 7p-9p
Pranna Restaurant
79 Madison Avenue (28th Street)
New York, NY 10016

WOMEN WORKING WITH WOMEN
The Women in the Arts & Media Coalition, Inc. will present the 2015 Collaboration Award recognizing Women Working with Women.

The $1,000 Collaboration Award and additional honorable mentions are designed to encourage professional women in the arts and media from different specializations to work collaboratively on the creation of a new artistic work.  As the aim of the award is to encourage women to work collaboratively with women of other disciplines, each collaborative team must be comprised of female members of different Coalition associations, unions, guilds and affiliates of The Coalition.  Eligible teams may submit any form of creative collaboration on a new work that had its first public performance within the last two years 2013-2015. A Public Performance can include, but is not limited to a staged reading, gallery show, screenings, concert series, etc.
Submissions will be judged on the basis of artistic excellence, diversity, and clarity.  All topics and subjects will be considered.  Special attention shall be given to those projects which reflect the goals of the Coalition:  to advance women's work and women's issues.
The team that has been selected and the honorable mentions will be invited to be recognized at an awards ceremony in New York in October 2015.  Women outside of New York may send a designee to speak about their project and accept the award.
Teams of two or more women working together on the creative project may apply for the 2015 Collaboration Award.  Applicants must be members in good standing of two different organizations and/or affiliates with The Coalition.  (See organizations below.)
The application is online at www.womenartsmediacoalition.org and can be saved and re-worked there until submitted to us. A pdf of the application may also be accessed there in order to work on a submission offline.
