Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company Fall Festival (Fall, NYC) - Playhouse Creatures Theatre NYC is seeking submissions for ten minute and one act plays for consideration in a production play fest this fall. Vertigo Theatre Company COLLAB (September- October 2014, NYC) - COLLAB, Vertigo’s own staged reading series, is a four-week workshop that connects artists from various creative communities to promote collaboration in the development of original work. Workshops culminate in a free, public presentation. This year, Vertigo Theater Company and co-curator Emily Simoness will select original, short pieces to workshop beginning in September, with performances scheduled for early October at BAM. The Hive Theatre Company Exposed Series (2014-2015 Season, New York, NY) – Seeking submissions for a series of staged readings of new and underexposed plays. The Network One Act Play Festival (November 1-19, 2014, NYC) - Seeking 44 one act scripts to be produced as a part of their fall one act play festival, to be seen by industry professionals. Arena Stage Our War Monologue Competition (November 8, 2014, NYC) - In conjunction with our production of Our War and as part of The National Civil War Project, Arena Stage is holding a national competition for character monologue submissions written about the American Civil War. Selections may be fictitious or based on the writer's family history.
Up to three winners will receive a performance of their monologue at Arena Stage by members of the cast of Our War at a post-show public reading on November 6 following the 8:00 p.m. performance. Selected writers will also receive a session with American Voices New Play Institute Dramaturg Jocelyn Clarke, a listing in the Our War program and an award certificate.The winners will be notified by Arena Stage in September and the selected monologues will be posted on the Arena Stage website. Monologues should be no more than three minutes in length (on average, 600 words), and must in some way address or react to the American Civil War and how it reverberates in America today. Submissions will be read by Arena Stage staff and board, local theater artists and community partners. NO FEE. The Yale Drama Series (New Haven, CT) – Seeking original, unpublished, full-length plays written in English. No translations, musicals, or children’s plays. The winner will receive the David C. Horn Prize of $10,000, publication of the manuscript by Yale University Press, and a staged reading at Lincoln Center Theater. The manuscript must begin with a title page that shows the play’s title, a 2-3 sentence keynote description of the play, a list of characters, and a list of acts and scenes. Please enter the title of your play, your name and contact information (including address, phone number, and email address), and a brief biography (optional) where indicated in the electronic submission form.  Plays should be typed and page-numbered and should follow professional play format. The Growing Stage New Play Reading Festival (November 7-9, 2014, Netcong, NJ) - This project is open to any unpublished and unproduced non-musical TYA scripts to be considered as one of four plays to be featured in the New Play-Reading Festival this coming season at The Growing Stage Theatre – The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey. The initial play readings will take place, one per day, November 7th through 9th . After the reading of each play, there will be a dialogue among the audience, performers and playwright. The second set of readings will take place, again, one per day, February 27th through March 1st. After the play readings in March, one of the four scripts will then be selected to be presented as a fully mounted production in The Growing Stage’s 2015/2016 season. NO FEE. Acadiana Theatre Company (2015 Season, Lafayette, LA) – The Acadiana Repertory Theatre is now accepting submissions for one to two slots available in its 2015 Season, with the theme Only Adapt. Stay Awake! Prism Festival ( October 23-November 1, 2014, Denver, CO) – A new Denver-based theater company - is now accepting submissions for its inaugural 10-minute play competition. Playwrights from around the world are invited to submit a 10-minute piece for our Prism Festival of new works. Each submitted play will be read by at least two professional theater artists. Plays must be no longer than 10 minutes, unproduced and original. A panel of professional theatre artists from around the US will select the winning plays. Reston Community Players New Play Project (Monthly Readings, Reston, VA) – Seeking bold, passionate, innovative new scripts for public readings followed by talk-back sessions with the audience, author, performers, and other personnel. Several authors will be invited back for a second public reading and talk-back, this time with some minimal production elements such as costumes or set pieces. Eventually, one script will be selected for a full production at the Center Stage at the Reston Community Center. Authors will receive a royalty for each public reading. There are no limitations on theme, style, or subject matter; edgy, avant-garde works are welcome in addition to more traditional forms. Scripts must be full-length (90 minutes or longer). Alumnae Theatre Company New Ideas Festival (March 11-29, 2015, Toronto, OT) - The Alumnae Theatre Company is dedicated to the production of adventurous, high-quality theatre not readily seen elsewhere, and to the promotion and skill development of women in theatre. Alumnae Theatre Company’s New Ideas Festival (NIF) is an annual, three-week juried festival of new plays, works-in-progress and experimental theatre. Each week a different program of up to four plays, as well as a workshopped reading on Saturday at noon, is presented.Scripts must be original works that have not been previously performed outside of a workshop. They may be in any genre or style, with a running time of 10 to 40 minutes; one act of a full-length play may also be accepted for production. Please include a cover page with the script/proposal, providing the play title, a list and description of characters (including age), and a short play synopsis. Send a separate contact page with the play title, playwright’s name and contact information, and a short bio (75 words or less). NIF does not provide feedback on submissions or return scripts. NIF will confirm receipt of submissions within two weeks, and scripts/proposals will be sent to the NIF reading committee. Festival (April 16-26, Northern Kentucky University) - Submissions (ONE per playwright) must be full-length and should include a one-page synopsis and a cast list with brief character descriptions. A Y.E.S. entry form must accompany a submitted script. Selections will be made and winners notified no later than December 31, 2014. Returnable scripts will be mailed back after the winners have been notified. Ensemble Studio Theatre/ Sloan Project (2015- 2016 Season, NYC) - The EST/Sloan Project commissions, develops and presents new works delving into how we view and are affected by the scientific world. These plays examine the struggles and challenges scientists and engineers face from moral issues to the consequences of their discoveries. Commissions will be awarded to individuals, groups and creative teams for full-length and one-act plays and musicals. Commissions range from $1000 to $10,000. Commission amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, as are deadlines for drafts, finished work, and research support (if appropriate). Extant, full-length works may be submitted and are judged on a script-by-script basis by the EST/Sloan Project staff. Rewrite commissions for existing scripts range from $1,000 to $5,000.The EST/Sloan Project is open to a broad range of topics related to the issues, people, ideas, processes, leading-edge discoveries, inventions, and/or history of the "hard" sciences and technology. Mobtown Playwrights Group (Baltimore, MD) – Seeking new works by Baltimore Area writers. Scripts will be read in back-to-back weekends of public readings. The Mobtown Players will supply actors, directors, and marketing acumen. Playwrights will have a chance to revise their drafts based on feedback from the first weekend’s readings, and to rehearse those revisions for the second weekend’s readings. The goal for the final slot is to select one script to receive a full production by the Mobtown Players. Plays may be any length, genre, or style and may be written on any topic. Cullman Fellowship - The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers supports projects that draw on the research collections at The New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building (formerly the Humanities and Social Sciences Library). The Center looks for top-quality writing from academics as well as from creative writers and independent scholars. It aims to promote dynamic conversation about the humanities, social sciences, and scholarship at the very highest level — within the Center, in public forums throughout the Library, and in the Fellows’ published work. Fellows are required to work at the Cullman Center, on the project for which they applied, for the duration of the fellowship term. Fellows may have a few prior brief commitments, but must limit research trips, attendance at scholarly meetings, and speaking engagements, and may not accept other major work obligations during the course of this fellowship. Anyone who needs to be away for more than two days must notify the Director or Deputy Director in advance. The Library will pro-rate stipends for Fellows who spend too much time away from the Center. Open Meadows Foundation Grants – Funding to individuals and to nonprofit organizations for projects that are led by and benefit women. Grants of up to $2,000 support projects that are designed and implemented by women and girls; reflect diversity of community served by project in both its leadership and organization; promote building community power; promote racial, social, economic, and environmental justice; and have limited financial access or have encountered obstacles in search for funding. In addition to general grants, Open Meadows has 6 special targeted funds: the Jeanne Meurer Indigenous Women’s Fund; the Ellen Dougherty Activist Fund for Young Women; the Edie Windsor Fund for Old Lesbians; the India Fund; the Patsy Lu Fund for Women’s Music Projects; and the Susan F. The Emily List Fund for Performing Arts Therapy – Supports theatre, dance, and music projects aimed at helping the sick and disadvantaged in the interest of making their lives better and brighter through the performing arts. Grants of up to $1,000 to fund instruments or equipment for a music therapist working in a hospital; scholarships for young people to attend theatre camp; travel expenses for a chorus or theatre group; space for a dancer working with disabled or elderly people; payment for an instructor teaching arts to patients; tickets for groups to attend theatre performances they otherwise could not… and any other proposal along those lines. Grants are focused in the Pioneer Valley and at Mass General Hospital. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis year-round. Recology Artist in Residence Program (2015, San Francisco Bay Area, CA) – Provides local artists working in all media the opportunity to create art using materials they gather from San Francisco’s refuse. Four-month residency includes 24-hour access to a 2,000-sq. ft. art studio, a monthly stipend, and an exhibit at the end of each residency. Open to professional artists who reside within one hour’s drive of San Francisco; students ineligible. Prior to applying, artists must take a tour of the recycling facilities, art studio, and sculpture garden (tours held on the third Saturday of each month at 10am). MacDowell Colony (Up to eight weeks between February 1 – May 31, 2015, Peterborough, New Hampshire) – Residencies of up to eight weeks (average stay is five weeks) providing artists with time and space to create lasting works of the imagination.
