WOMEN MAKE MOVIES | MARCH 2026 E-NEWS | | 6 Productions Assistance Program Films Will Have Their World Premieres In Competition at CPH:DOX! | | | Great news from Copenhagen! Six films supported by the Women Make Movies Production Assistance Program will have their world premieres, all in competition, at CPH:DOX 2026 (March 11–22)! This includes four films competing for the DOX:AWARD — representing a remarkable one-third of films in the festival's main competition: THE CORD (dir. Nolwenn Hervé); DAUGHTERS OF THE FOREST (dir. Otilia Portillo); THE SANDBOX (dir. Kenya-Jade Pinto); and WHISPERS IN MAY (dir. Dongnan Chen). Also premiering are: WHERE THE SILENCE IS HEARD (dir. Gabriela Pena); THE PHANTOM PAIN OF ROJAVA (dir. Maryam Embrahimi); THE AMERICAN DOCTOR (dir. Poh Si Teng); and TO HOLD A MOUNTAIN (dir. Biljana Tutorov & Petar Glomazić), which recently won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance. Additionally, four Production Assistance films — DON'T LET THE SUN GO UP ON ME (dir. Asmae El Moudir), WAR ON WOMEN (dir. Maris Salumets), WE ARE VOLCANOES (dir. Congratulations to all of our filmmakers! | | Special NYC Screening: THE TALLEST DWARF at DCTV's Firehouse Cinema on March 18 | | | WMM release THE TALLEST DWARF (dir. Julie Forrest Wyman), which recently received the Unstoppable Feature Grand Jury Prize Honorable Mention at the 32nd Slamdance Film Festival, will have a special NYC screening at DCTV's Firehouse Cinema on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 PM. The documentary, made with the support of the WMM Production Assistance Program, follows the filmmaker as she charts her personal journey to understand her place within the little people (LP) community and joins forces with a group of dwarf artists to reclaim creative expression and agency. A Q&A with director/producer Julie Forrest Wyman, moderated by executive producer and film participant Sofiya Cheyenne to follow the screening. Five films produced with support from the Women Make Movies Production Assistance Program will screen including the Opening Night film, AMERICAN DOCTOR (dir. Poh Si Teng). 9-MONTH CONTRACT (dir. Ketevan Vashagashvili); THE WOMAN WHO POKED THE LEOPARD (dir. Patience Nitumwesiga); CITIZENFOUR (dir. Laura Poitras); and COEXISTENCE, MY ASS! (dir. Amber Fares) are also all in the line-up. THE CORD (dir. Nolwenn Hervé) will be pitching in the Take on Film & Impact program, which supports filmmakers in refining their impact strategies and creating connections and collaborations. Women Make Movies Executive Director Debra Zimmerman has been invited to be on the festival's Grand Jury for Documentary and will moderate an Industry Take on Industry Dilemmas panel about activism in film. Debra will also participate on the panel Backsliding Democracies, Impact & Independent Storytelling, exploring the role independent filmmakers and impact campaigns can play at a time when democracies around the world are facing rising polarization, censorship, and pressure on independent media. She will be at the festival March 20-25.
