FILMS IN FOCUS: The Road to Sundance or SXSW
Thursdays, May 8 - May 29 | 12 PM ET | ZOOM

This May, join Women Make Movies for a comprehensive series of case studies on stand-out films that premiered at Sundance or SXSW. These four case studies span the most important issues facing filmmakers working today: international co-production, navigating relationships and ethical concerns with vulnerable participants, building teams of producers and executive producers, pitching at international forums, and finding creative solutions to distribution using new platforms.

The series kicks off with Maia Lekow, co-director of HOW TO BUILD A LIBRARY, which had its World Premiere at Sundance 2025. Then, followed by Julie Wyman, director of THE TALLEST DWARF, and Anayansi Prado, director of UVALDE MOM — both films premiered at SXSW 2025. Lastly, we're joined by Brett Story, co-director of UNION, which premiered at Sundance in 2024 and won a Special Jury Award for the Art of Change.
