Submissions are now open for the 2025 Women in the Arts and Media Coalition Collaboration Awards 

Playwrights, Screenwriters, Directors, Actors, Filmmakers, Choreographers, Dancers, among other Disciplines Encouraged to Apply - Deadline, December 31, 2024

Women in the Arts & Media Coalition is proud to announce their call for submissions for the 2025 Collaboration Awards. Established in 2006, the $1,000 award and other honors are designed to encourage professional women from different arts and media disciplines to work together on the creation of a new artistic work. Artistic disciplines include but are not limited to playwrights, directors, composers, choreographers, filmmakers, actors, singers, and dancers.

Collaborative teams must be led by female members of the various Coalition arts & media associations, unions, guilds, affiliates, (full list below) or be individual members. While team participants may be of any gender, the two people submitting for the award must both identify as women and be from two different disciplines. 

Eligible teams may suggest any form of creative collaboration on a new work created since 2021 and which has had a public performance. Public performances may include, but are not limited to, a production, a workshop, a staged reading, a gallery show, a concert, etc. Public performances may be in person and/or virtual. Submissions will be judged on the basis of artistic excellence, diversity, and clarity. All topics and subjects will be considered. Special attention shall be given to projects that reflect the goals of the Coalition: to advance the voice and vision of women (women's work and women's issues). 

The winning team and the honorable mentions will be invited to an award ceremony in New York in Autumn, 2025. Also honored at this event will be an Acclaimed Collaboration Award winning project. 

Applicants must be members in good standing of a member organization, and/or an individual member of the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition. Downtown Urban Arts Festival 

Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) is seeking theatrical works (plays, musicals, and solo performances) for its 23rd annual season to be held in June 2025 in the Theatre District in New York City.


DUAF supports diverse, new, and emerging voices from America's burgeoning multicultural landscape. Over 200 playwrights have participated in DUAF and some have gone on to greater success on Broadway and have claimed top prizes such as the Pulitzer, Tony and Obie awards and nominations.  Submission Categories: Short-length play (under 45 minutes) Full-length play (up to 70 minutes)

The Caribbean Writer 

The Caribbean Writer (TCW) has issued a call for submissions for Volume 39 under the 2025 theme: Possibilities: Beyond Tradition, Inside of Courage  We inherit the legacies of our those who march before us, if not directly, some other way and so reckoning has become a way of life. Some suggests that what will save us is our resolve. Contributors may submit works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, essays or one act plays which explore the ideas resonating within the region and its diaspora. The Caribbean should be central to the work, or the work should reflect a Caribbean heritage, experience or perspective. Prospective authors should submit all creative works: drama, fiction and poetry manuscripts, through the online portal ONLY at www.thecaribbeanwriter.org/online-submission. Submit Word files only (no PDFs) . Note that TCW no longer accepts hardcopy submissions.

FutureFest 

The Dayton Playhouse invites playwrights of all races and ethnicities, all gender identities, all physical abilities, and all ages to submit scripts for consideration as a Finalist for FutureFest 2025. Festival dates: July 18 – 20, 2025. The Dayton Playhouse will hold the 2025 festival in person. The submission deadline for FutureFest 2025 is October 31, 2024.

Eric H. Weinberger Award for Emerging Librettists

Eric H. Weinberger Award for Emerging Librettists is a juried cash and production grant given annually to support the early work and career of a deserving musical theatre librettist. It commemorates the life and work of playwright/librettist Eric H. Weinberger (1950-2017), who was a Drama Desk Award nominee for Best Book of a Musical (Wanda's World), and the playwright/librettist of Class Mothers '68, which earned Pricilla Lopez a Drama Desk Award nomination.The winner will receive $2,000 to help with cost-of-living expenses. The winning musical will receive development assistance in the 2025 New Works Development Program of Amas Musical Theatre, culminating in an Amas Lab production with New York theatre professionals. Amas, which is administering the Award, was the development home for several of Mr. Weinberger's musicals, and which produced the World Premiere of Wanda's World and the New York Premiere of Tea for Three. With the many setbacks in the theatre industry over the past few years, we are grateful to be afforded this opportunity to continue making theatre and creating an impact in our community. We are excited to begin work with our 2024 winners Daniel and James Cullen on their piece Dubbo Championship Wrestling and welcome a new wave of inspiring voices to our musical theatre family.Submissions open September 12, 2024 and will close December 2, 2024

The Richard Rodgers Awards 2024

The Richard Rodgers Awards were created and endowed by Richard Rodgers in 1978 for the development of the musical theater. These awards subsidize full productions, studio productions, and staged readings by nonprofit theaters in New York City of works by composers and writers who are not already established in this field. The winners are selected by a jury of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Richard Rodgers Awards are the only awards for which the Academy accepts applications.

o Eligibility: The name(s) of the author(s) must not appear on any of the items submitted, with the exception of the application form. Include only the title of the work on the script and plot summary. Please be sure author names are not included in music file metadata.

  • Half-page synopsis of the action and a list of characters, in PDF format.

  • A separate track sheet (PDF) of recorded songs with page numbers indicating where they appear in the script and specifying the total number of minutes recorded.

  • At least 45 minutes of music, including a minimum of eight songs. Orchestrations are not necessary; piano and vocals are sufficient. Songs must be numbered in sequence (e.g. 01 Song Title.mp3) and each song's lyrics clearly typed into the script where it appears. Tracks must be uploaded in the order they appear in the script.

  • Application form signed by all collaborators (see below). Applicants submitting work that has already been produced must give full information concerning these productions, including programs. A work is not eligible if one of the collaborators is deceased.

  • If applicable, a statement of intent declaring how the applicants would use the award if their musical is a winner. If the piece is already attached to producers or a theater, even if tentative, these associations must be declared here.

  • If the submitted work (or a portion thereof) is an adaptation of material which is not in the public domain, candidates must submit licenses, permissions, or authorizations necessary to permit the work to be produced in conformity with applicable copyright laws. The music must be original.

FLINT REPERTORY THEATRE NEW WORKS FESTIVAL 2025

Flint Repertory Theatre's New Works Festival is an annual weeklong event featuring staged readings and workshops of new plays and musicals. Playwrights and composers from around the country are in residence in Flint during the process, where audience members experience these new works before anyone else and meet the artists working to bring the future of American theatre to life.

Agbowó seeks one-act plays for the December 2024 issue

We will consider one-act plays for publication with running times between 10 and 30 minutes. Submissions can explore any theme and can be genre-bending as well. We are open to new ideas so the plays can be experimental. The submission should have a maximum cast of 7 characters. There can be room for three minor characters with limited dialogues. Submissions should include a cover letter with a summary of the play, the name and location of the playwright, the running time, performance history (if it has been performed before), and awards (if it has won any awards). Submissions should be in Microsoft Word documents. Only finished scripts of one-act plays are acceptable. Do not submit drafts of works in process. Previously produced plays are welcomed. The play must be a complete one-act play, not a part of a larger work.  Please remember to indicate in your subject the issue to which you are submitting. Although we can only accept about 1% of the works submitted to Agbowo, we are always looking to spotlight the best of Africa's new writing. Our contributors have been shortlisted or have won the Brunel Prize, the Commonwealth Prize, the Caine Prize, and more.

The Woodward/Newman Award

The Woodward/Newman Award is an exclusive honor offered by Constellation Stage & Screen, started through the support of Joanne Woodward, Newman's Own Foundation, and the Newman family, celebrating Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward's tremendous history of work on stage and screen. It presents the best unpublished play of the year with a cash prize of $3,000 and a full production as part of Constellation's Mainstage season. Please note that there are significant changes to our submission and selection process from previous years. In order to make the Woodward/Newman Award accessible to all, we have eliminated submission fees as wellhould have a complete running time of between 1 hour 15 minutes (75 minutes) to 2 hours 15 minutes (135 minutes). TYA shows should have a complete running time of over 40 minutes.

  • Plays submitted must be unpublished at the time of submission (independently published is acceptable).

City Theatre Seeks 10 Minute Plays for the Susan J Westfall National Short Playwriting Contest


City Theatre is looking for the best short plays from all over for our upcoming 2024-25 season that furthers our mission to identify, acknowledge, and award excellence in dramatic writing. Having produced hundreds of plays, we want scripts that are lively and timely, hilarious, provocative, poignant, and surprising. We look for plays that span style and genre. We will consider bilingual scripts and ten-minute musicals. We have no restriction on the age range of the characters. In other words, we are seeking compelling plays that rise above the ordinary. City Theatre seeks compelling plays that rise above the ordinary. Playwrights from across the country are invited to submit lively, timely, hilarious, provocative, poignant, and surprising scripts. We look for plays that span style and genre. We will consider bilingual scripts and ten-minute musicals. Neurodivergent New Play Series 


Neurodivergent playwrights in NYC since 2023 - is accepting recurring submissions as we prepare for our 2024-25 Season.All submissions should be for full-length plays between 45 to 180 minutes long and may have received a previous reading or production outside of NYC, as long as they are unpublished. All neurodivergent/disabled writers (autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, OCD, Tourette's, etc.) at all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply - especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and female-identifying writers. There is no submission fee or any other fee for being involved in this process.

Unleashed 2025

Unleashed 2025 returns for a week-long festival of brand new genre plays by Asian Americans! Pork Filled Productions is sounding the call, once again, for one acts and full length plays that indulge in genre, upend expectations, and expand imaginations. From Roger Tang, executive director of PFP: "We have more stories in us than oppression or identity plays. We want to give writers free rein to let loose their full storytelling potential on stage. And we want the audience to have fun and we get to tell our stories." If you are accepted, you will be given actors, a director, and a dramaturge. Private workshops, writing time, and a public workshop at Theatre Off Jackson in Seattle, W.A.

o Eligibility: We are looking for one acts (30-45 minutes) and full length plays (90+ minutes) by Asian American playwrights.

  • We are specifically seeking bold, imaginative new work in genres such as noir, science fiction, fantasy, horror, action adventure, or any mashup in-between. We want your play to have FUN and FANTASTICAL universes and indulge in the idea of play! No living room drama plays please!

  • Selected plays will receive a public staged reading in Seattle, WA. Local writers from the Pacific Northwest are strongly encouraged to submit.

  • We will prioritize local playwrights, but this application is open to a national call. If accepted, your play will have a private and public staged reading, but we are not able to offer accommodation or transportation to Seattle at this time.

  • All submitted plays will be considered for a full production by Pork Filled Productions.

Theatre Now Soundbites 

Theatre Now defines a 10-minute musical as any piece that can be performed in 10 minutes or less; has a beginning, middle, and end story arc; and includes music. Having produced nearly 100 pieces, we want musicals that are diverse and current, that test the musical form and communicate a well-crafted story. We accept musicals across all styles and genres and are happy to consider foreign language and/or bilingual scripts. We strongly encourage submissions from female writers, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ writers.As Theatre Now is an artist service organization and the producer of SOUND BITES, we cover the majority of your expenses and costs. We're the only short musical theatre festival that offers artists honorariums and rehearsal reimbursements for each piece. That being said, there are some out-of-pocket costs depending on your show's requirements (cast & creative team size, number of rehearsals, size of rehearsal space, etc.) and personal choice. Most of these costs relate to specific set-dressing, props and costumes for your show and additional personnel such as musicians.

  • Ten-minute musicals will be accepted from September 1st, 2024 - January 3rd, 2025 at midnight.

  • Submissions won't be considered before or after the deadline.

  • Musical theatre writers can only submit up to two scripts.

  • The story must have a beginning, middle, and end.

  • We accept submissions in foreign languages or that are bilingual. Although the application process is in English, the work itself may be submitted and performed in any other language if selected.

  • Each piece must include music.

  • All submissions must be submitted via this website. No physical copies.

  • Each musical must not exceed ten minutes when performed. If accepted, cuts may be required.

  • Longer one-acts or full-length musicals will not be considered, although the submission may be a 10-minute portion of a longer piece as long as it tells a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end story arc.

  • A musical may be a previously-produced work with a production history.

  • We have no formal script formatting guidelines, but all scripts should be easy to read.

  • The volume of submissions prevents us from providing feedback on all submissions.

  • If your piece is visual (i.e. choreography-heavy), please include video footage or detailed descriptions.

  • We expect to contact all writers by mid-February, 2025 on the status of their submission with one of the following emails:

  • An acceptance email into the festival that will include additional information to confirm their involvement. 

  • A waitlist email. In the event an accepted musical declines their participation, a selected waitlisted musical will be notified to serve as a replacement.

  • The remaining musicals will receive a "not selected" email and are encouraged to submit again next year.

ATC Nationale Latine Playwrights Award 

Latine playwrights residing in the United States, its territories or Mexico are encouraged to submit scripts for the award. Each script will be read and evaluated by a culturally diverse panel of theatre artists; finalists will be judged by ATC artistic staff. The winner of the National Latine Playwrights Award will receive $2,500. Full-length and longer one-act plays with a minimum of 50 pages on any subject will be accepted. The winner will be notified by Spring 2025.

o Eligibility: The award is open to all Latine playwrights currently residing in the United States, its territories, or Mexico. Scripts may be in English, Spanish, or a combination of the two (Spanish scripts must be accompanied by an English translation). Plays must be unpublished, professionally unproduced, and not currently under option at the time of submission. Full-length and one-act plays, with a minimum length of 50 pages, on any subject will be accepted.

  • Scripts: The physical scripts become the property of Arizona Theatre Company and will not be returned. In this case, "property" means the physical property of the theatre, not the intellectual property or any rights to the play.

  • Application requirements include:

    • Submissions of a single script can be sent via email to NLPA@atc.org.

    • Include a cover letter of no more than one page describing the play's developmental history and how the play fits into the playwright's broader career trajectory.

SHINE: Illuminating Black Stories ~ Barter Theatre's Black Stories Black Voices Monologue Writing Competition

2-3 monologues will be selected to be read at our 4th annual SHINE: Illuminating Black Stories in February 2025. SHINE is an annual evening of storytelling that explores the Black experience in Appalachia, curated by Barter's Black Stories Black Voices. Using prompts derived from our local Black community and Appalachian region, Black playwrights from across the country can submit original monologues to be performed and directed by our artists. SHINE always provides an unforgettable experience to our audiences.

o Eligibility: It is our hope that by connecting Black playwrights (wherever they are located) with stories from Black Appalachian communities, we can:

  • Create monologues that can be developed into full-length plays

  • Give audiences accessibility to new perspectives on life in Appalachia

Obsidian 

Obsidian cultivates, through publication and critical inquiry, Black imagination, innovation, and excellence—supporting Black, African, and African Diaspora creatives globally. Talking It Out: A Virtual Festival in Support of Mental Health Awareness

The Talking It Out Virtual Arts Festival in support of mental health empowerment, is thrilled to be returning this Fall after a year-long hiatus! We are now accepting play submissions to be featured in our new ongoing series of live play readings in NYC and audio drama podcast to be featured worldwide. This year, we will be accepting submissions for short plays, (less than 20 minutes) one-act plays, (20-40 minutes) & full-length plays (60-120 minutes) of all genres, including comedy, drama, sci-fi, horror, experimental, etc. Plays will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with playwrights to be notified at least 3 months in advance of their proposed performance date.

Nomad Theater 

Nomad Theatre seeks new unproduced short plays to be a part of our upcoming season! Our mission is to provide an immersive theatre experience by exposing audience members to eclectic and moving stories, taking theatre outside of a traditional theatre space and into site-specific locations. This year, we have three opportunities for playwrights to submit their original new short plays. Open to US playwrights, selected plays in our mainstage season receive a $15 honorarium ($40 for one-acts selected for By The Fireside) full production and a ticket to attend. The Tank Presents 

Each season, our The Tank Presents program serves hundreds of emerging artists as they create over 1000 performances of new works in music, theater, film, dance, comedy, and storytelling. As part of our mission to remove the economic barriers from the creation of new work, we never charge our artists to use our space for their performances! In addition, we also provide free rehearsal space, as well as free marketing and promotion of their event. Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest 

To encourage the development of quality theatrical materials for the educational, community and children's theatre markets, Pioneer Drama Service is proud to sponsor the annual Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest.

This is an ongoing contest, with a winner selected by June 1 each year from all eligible submissions received the previous year.  All eligible plays accepted for publication will be considered contest finalists, from which the winner will be selected.  The contest winner will receive a $1,000 royalty advance in addition to publication.

Production Manager, Geva Theater Center 

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, NY with an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, seeks an experienced and collaborative Production Manager to join their team.

Reporting to the General Manager and a member of senior staff, this position will oversee and work in tandem with our production departments managing the production needs and resources for the company's Wilson (LORT B) and Fielding (LORT D) stages. This is an exempt, full-time position.

With the General Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of the company's programs, including but not limited to mainstage productions, co-produced productions, scenic builds for other companies, and a variety of other Geva events. They maintain ownership of the advance planning, staffing and execution of all productions and events. They will serve as the primary point of contact for production personnel, production crew, stage management, and all production department heads. With department heads, they are responsible for overseeing the off-site scenic/paints shop, storage warehouses, inventory, and rentals.

In 2017, Audible launched a theater initiative, intended to radically increase access to exceptional plays and performances. A core pillar of the initiative is the Emerging Playwrights Fund, a program that invests in and nurtures self-identifying emerging playwrights, some of our most inventive, delightful, and provocative storytellers. Through the Fund, Audible aims to connect extraordinary performers with remarkable original work, amplifying new voices and harnessing the power and potential of audio to reach millions of listeners. The Fund specifically supports the creation of original dramatic work, written with audio in mind, but theatrical in spirit. Audible is dedicated to commissioning, developing, and producing work that reflects the diversity of our members and our world. To accomplish this, Audible is committed to granting at least 50% of emerging playwright commissions to artists of color and women.

Steven Schwartzberg Grants for Mental Health & Wellness

Writers are the beating heart of theater, whom we rely upon to take us on journeys and inspire us to think. During these unprecedented times, DGF has created the Steven Schwartzberg Grants to provide financial support for mental health and wellness services for writers. To help connect writers to therapists, DGF has partnered with Advekit, an online therapist matching service, to expand access to mental health support that might be out of your reach.

SubletSeries@HERE Program

This creative curated rental program has allowed many upstart companies and emerging artists to realize their full artistic vision on a small budget. The program provides subsidized performance and rehearsal space, technical assistance, and administrative support, including a fully staffed box office. SubletSeries@HERE artists can also access equipment that is not typically available in venues our size such as video projectors, wireless microphones, color scrollers—all for free or at subsidized rates. We accept applications from artists all over the world for the opportunity to show work.

RESIDENCIES 

Edward F. Albee Foundation Residency 2025 

The Edward F. Albee Foundation maintains the William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center (better known as "The Barn") in Montauk, Long Island, New York, as a residence for writers and visual artists of all media. Due to extensive, site-wide renovations, we are proud to be completely ADA-accessible and open our doors to all creative people. The Center is open year-round (with the exception of December, when it is closed for general maintenance and holidays), and can accommodate four creative persons at a time. Residencies are for calendar months only. The standards for admission are, simply, talent and need. Located approximately two miles from the center of Montauk and the Atlantic Ocean, "The Barn" rests in a secluded knoll which offers privacy and a peaceful atmosphere. The Foundation expects all those accepted for residence to work seriously and to conduct themselves in such a manner as to aid fellow residents in their endeavors. Writers and visual artists are offered individual en-suite bedrooms and separate working studios. Residents are responsible for their food, travel, and other expenses. The environment is simple and communal. Residents are expected to do their share in maintaining the condition of "The Barn" as well as its peaceful environment.

Art Omi: Writers 

Art Omi: Writers hosts authors and translators from around the world for residencies throughout the spring and fall. The program's strong international emphasis provides exposure for global literary voices and reflects the spirit of cultural exchange that is essential to Art Omi's mission. Guests may select a residency of one week to two months; about ten writers at a time gather to live and work in a rural setting overlooking the Catskill Mountains. Daytime is reserved for writing and quiet activities, while evenings are more communal. A program of weekly visits bring guests from the New York publishing community. Noted editors, agents and book scouts are invited to share dinner and conversation on both creative and practical subjects, offering insight into the workings of the publishing industry, and introductions to some of its key professionals. Readings throughout the year invite the public to experience finished and in-process work by writers and translators in residence. Art Omi: Writers welcomes published writers and translators of every type of literature. All text-based projects—fiction, nonfiction, theater, film, poetry, etc.—are eligible. International, cultural and creative exchange is a foundation of our mission, and a wide distribution of national background is an important part of our selection process. All residencies are fully funded with accommodations, food, local transport and public programming provided. However, please note that Art Omi: Writers does not provide travel funds. Selected residents are responsible for funding their own travel or securing travel funds from a third party.

    • A brief (2 pages, maximum) statement about your work history, referencing publications, performances and writing credits. This can be submitted in CV format.

    • A writing sample, no more than 25 pages.  The work sample does not have to be published or related to your current project and can be a combination of multiple samples. 

    • A one page description of the work to be undertaken while at Art Omi: Writers.

New Harmony Writers Residencey 2025 

The New Harmony Project is a national arts organization whose mission is to nurture writers in the development of scripts and new works that interrogate the complexity of hope. Through artist-centered programming, we care for writers so they can change the world. THE 2025 WRITERS' RESIDENCY: This year, through our open selection process, we're seeking storytellers who are interested in an artist-centered residency that will provide a creative and nurturing environment, supportive artistic community, and dramaturgical resources in a bucolic setting. These residencies will not include a full developmental workshop with actors and a creative team, but there will be opportunities to hear your work out loud in informal settings. At the 2025 residency, we will also be supporting 3 Productions in Residence selected in collaboration with partner organizations outside of the open selection process. These projects will be receiving a full developmental workshop with actors and a creative team, but will be shorter in duration. Writers cannot apply for the Productions in Residence program.
