The Cooper Prize 

The 16th Street Foundation invites writers to apply for a prestigious new prize for dramatic writing. The Cooper Prize is a new Australian playwriting prize that seeks to populate our cultural conversation with a wide range of artistic perspectives. It seeks to advance the principles of open enquiry, viewpoint diversity and constructive disagreement. All voices willing to tackle the most challenging themes with empathy, intelligence and nuance are welcome and dramatists with heterodox perspectives are especially encouraged to apply. The winning playwright will receive a $10,000 prize and their work will be considered for a full commission for production. All finalists will receive a professionally directed public reading of their submitted scene with professional actors. "Freedom of Speech starts with Freedom of Mind. I believe that Culture and the Arts are upstream (more important) than politics and economics. I am delighted to support the 16th Street Foundation through this new writing prize. The Caribbean Writer (TCW) has issued a call for submissions for Volume 38 under the 2024 theme: Legacies: Reckoning and Resolve.  We inherit the legacies of those who march before us, if not directly, some other way and so reckoning has become a way of life. Some suggest that what will save us is our resolve. Contributors may submit works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, essays or one act plays which explore the ideas resonating within the region and its diaspora. The Caribbean should be central to the work, or the work should reflect a Caribbean heritage, experience or perspective. Long Beach Short Play Festival 

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2024 Long Beach Short Play Festival, to take place on May 4-5, 2024, at the Temple Emanu-El ballroom, which seats 150. Seeking original, unpublished short plays (maximum 30 minutes running time) that can be staged with minimal production requirements. Selected plays can be self-produced at the playwright's option. Fifth Annual Eric H. Weinberger Award for Emerging Librettists

The Eric H. Weinberger Award for Emerging Librettists is a juried cash and production grant given annually to support the early work and career of a deserving musical theatre librettist. It commemorates the life and work of playwright/librettist Eric H. Weinberger (1950-2017), who was a Drama Desk Award nominee for Best Book of a Musical (Wanda's World), and the playwright/librettist of Class Mothers '68, which earned Pricilla Lopez a Drama Desk Award nomination.  The winner will receive $2,000 to help with cost-of-living expenses. The winning musical will receive development assistance in the 2023 New Works Development Program of Amas Musical Theatre, culminating in an Amas Lab production with New York theatre professionals. Amas, which is administering the award, was the development home for several of Mr. Weinberger's musicals, and which produced the World Premiere of Wanda's World and the New York Premiere of Tea for Three. We are grateful to be afforded this opportunity to continue making theatre and creating an impact in our community. We are excited to begin work with our 2023 winners Annie Dillon and Samantha Caps on their piece Show Me Eternity and welcome a new wave of inspiring voices to our musical theatre family.

The Richard Rodgers Awards 2023 

The Richard Rodgers Awards were created and endowed by Richard Rodgers in 1978 for the development of the musical theater. These awards subsidize full productions, studio productions, and staged readings by nonprofit theaters in New York City of works by composers and writers who are not already established in this field. The winners are selected by a jury of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Richard Rodgers Awards are the only awards for which the Academy accepts applications.

Once a playwright sees their work onstage, it provides an opportunity for the playwright to improve or modify their story. People are more likely to go see a show than to read an unsolicited script, as some industry people receive on average thousands of submissions per month, and they understand that the journey for a show to be successful often goes through several productions. She NYC Arts Script Submissions 

We accept full-length plays and musicals during our open submissions period for our Summer Theater Festivals. In order to apply, you must be a playwright or composer of a gender marginalized group (including cis women, trans people, and non-binary people), or a writing team that is made up of at least 50% people from a gender-marginalized group. Script Submissions are now OPEN for our 2024 SheNYC, SheLA, and SheATL Festivals! Submissions for our first-annual SheDFW Festival in Dallas-Fort Worth will open in early 2024.  Note that we only accept script submissions during our submission window. If you would like to be considered for our summer festivals, you must submit your work during that time period. The Tank Presents 

Each season, our The Tank Presents program serves hundreds of emerging artists as they create over 1000 performances of new works in music, theater, film, dance, comedy, and storytelling. As part of our mission to remove the economic barriers from the creation of new work, we never charge our artists to use our space for their performances! In addition, we also provide free rehearsal space, as well as free marketing and promotion of their event. Our The Tank Presents presenting model removes the daunting cost of space rental from the equation of art making, and provides an affordable home for emerging artists to create art that pushes the boundaries of their mediums. South Texas Latinx New Play Festival

Thank you for your interest in submitting your play to the South Texas Latinx New Play Festival! We are excited to continue supporting and celebrating the development of new plays by Latino writers. Please make sure you have read all of the eligibility details before submitting. Three finalists will be chosen, and notified no later than April 1, 2024. The selected plays will be produced as staged readings for the 3rd Annual STX Latinx New Play Festival June 2024. The selection of directors will happen late April and actor auditions will be held early May 2024. Rehearsals will run from late May to performances in June 2023. At this time travel to and from the festival for the selected playwrights cannot be provided, but virtual and live streaming capabilities will be available through the rehearsal and live reading process.

Live & In Color 

Live & In Color is looking for playwrights, composers, and lyricists of color and/or other underrepresented communities interested in developing their new musical in the Fall of 2024. The selected musical submission will have a two-week workshop in the fall at The Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut culminating in a staged presentation to an invited audience. Writers receive a $1,000 stipend plus housing, meals, and travel. We provide support including a several month development period based on needs of the composer/writers leading up to the retreat. Live & In Color staff will continue to support the development of your peace beyond the retreat including a reading for industry and Broadway Alums.

Centenary Stage Company: Call for Plays Women Playwrights Series 2023

The Centenary Stage Company, a professional theatre in residence on the campus of Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ is accepting submissions for the Women Playwrights Series (WPS) and Susan Glaspell Contest. The WPS is a developmental program dedicated to providing a working forum for the unique and under-served voice of women writing for the theatre today. Each season 3 new plays are selected for a collaborative workshop process, with a professional director and actors, which takes place in a brief rehearsal period of approximately 1 week, allowing time for the playwright to hear and adapt their work with other professionals. The process culminates in a presentation of the work for the general public as part of the series, giving CSC audiences larger exposure to new work, as well as offering the playwright an opportunity to get feedback from the audience during the development process. To encourage the development of quality theatrical materials for the educational, community and children's theatre markets, Pioneer Drama Service is proud to sponsor the annual Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest.

This is an ongoing contest, with a winner selected by June 1 each year from all eligible submissions received the previous year.  All eligible plays accepted for publication will be considered contest finalists, from which the winner will be selected.  The contest winner will receive a $1,000 royalty advance in addition to publication.

figure invites artists to submit work that considers the role of the human form in contemporary art, from the hyperrealistic to the abstracted. What bodies and persons do we see, showcase, hide, define, abstract, or obscure through the expressions and interpretations of art? All visual mediums are accepted, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installations, video, performance art, and more. Works must be original and completed within the past five years. This exhibition will include both a physical gallery show located in Washington, DC and a virtual exhibition.

Through personal expression and collaborative investigation students will be given some basic tools allowing them to conceptualize, communicate and realize costumes. Previous art training is helpful but not essential. The student must provide most art supplies. The final evaluation will include a presentation in lieu of an exam.
