FILM FESTIVALS

Through Women’s Eyes International Film Festival

Welcome to the Through Women's Eyes International Film Festival in beautiful Sarasota, Florida! Our next festival is March 10-14, 2022. Now in our 23rd year, we are a mission-driven festival, dedicated to showcasing women filmmakers and films that address issues inadequately represented in mainstream media. We are an international festival with significant numbers of films from all over the world. We frequently select films that go on to commercial success (RBG), publicize the work of voices that need to be heard (Nobel Winner Nadia Murad, On Her Shoulders), and remind the world about issues that need more attention (SEWA, violence as an act of war in the DRC featuring Nobel Winner Dennis Mukwege).  In 2021, TWE successfully launched on a virtual platform, permitting our most successful festival ever. Our audience expanded to viewers from 33 US states and 12 countries.

o When/Where: March 10-14, 2022

o Deadline: December 20 (Entry Close Deadline)

o Application Fee: $45-$120

o Eligibility: We actively seek films that showcase important social themes and current events, films that reflect the LGBTQ experience, films reflecting the full diversity of global women, and films that show efforts to bring about gender equality. We welcome films from any country. All of our films must be entertaining and, if there's some humor, that never hurts!

  • made by female filmmakers (on any topic); or

  • focus on issues of particular interest to women (by any filmmaker); or

  • focus on women's stories and lives (by any filmmaker).

o Categories: Feature, Short, Documentary, Animated

Feedback Female Film Festival

The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes. Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival. This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way. When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival. A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a “HE” character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer. The festival quickly realized when doing the casting for the writing festival readings and setting up the film festival each week two distinct things: There are so many talented female actors out there who don’t have enough roles to play. 64% of the assigned roles in a screenplay out of over 500 winning readings from 2013-16 were for males. A woman character got only 36% of the roles! And it’s safe to say that so many elite & talented women out there are sitting on the sidelines for no other reason than there is a lack of diversity in Hollywood and around the world in the stories being written. There is a silent revolution happening around the world with female indy directors. The festival has noticed out of the last 100 films shown at the festival in the last year, 23 of those films were directed by a female. That is a great achievement in relation to how it is with Hollywood produced films, (4 out of 100 of the last films directed by a female.) but is that really something to be proud of? If 50% of the world’s population is female, then shouldn’t 50% of the films be produced and directed by a female? This is what the goal of this festival is.Simply put: There NEEDS to be more stories told  from the female point of view. And those stories need to be presented

o When/Where: March 7-19, 2022

o Deadline: December 29 (Final Deadline)

o Application Fee: $45-$120

o Eligibility: All film submissions must be have at least 3 out of the 4 major positions held by a female (director, producer, lead actor, writer). One major exception is that if the film is directed by a female, then the submission is immediately valid.. OR, the film's major plot and lead characters are female driven. All screenplay submissions must be written by a female writer.

Artist Rescue Trust

The next evolution of the Artist Rescue Trust program is a partnership with Grant for the Web. They have awarded us a grant allowing us to directly fund more artists and help them educate anyone about Web Monetization as an emerging and potential revenue stream. One that doesn't rely on advertising, pay walls, and bad data privacy practices. It's an innovative way forward to help build a healthier internet.

Web Monetization is a new and open technology that aims to provide a better way to access and financially reward  creators through streaming micropayments - aka tiny fractions of a penny - to instantly flow to artists and creators as people read, watch and listen to their work.

While we want to support artists now with immediate financial assistance, we also want to help support the future financial opportunities for all artists. So this is why we’ve built a learning component into our grant application process. We will also be releasing a series of Web Monetization tutorials that will dive deeper into how you can make it part of your online world.
