Film Girl Festival 

The Film Girl Film Festival is the only festival in Wisconsin dedicated to showcasing women in film, both in front and behind the camera. Formerly the Milwaukee Women's Film Festival. We are now in our fourth year! Throughout, We also partner with other organizations, such as Milwaukee Film and No Studios, to highlight women in film, both in Wisconsin and elsewhere. Update: We will be skipping 2021 due to safety concerns about COVID-19. The festival will be occurring in March at a date and location to be determined.

o Eligibility:​ All shorts or films directed by women are eligible for consideration. Films directed by men will also be considered if they have at least one woman as the main protagonist. Hispanic Film Festival 

This year we are raising the prize money and looking into having a viewing section for all the winners.  Actor/Producer Luis Avilez (Pam and Tommy 2021, How To Get Away With Murder 2019, Brain Games 2020, Her 2020, Addicted 2017, Amateur Hitman 2018) is once again hosting the annual Hispanic Film Festival along with Zeliva Pictures production company (Her 2020, Addicted 2017, Amateur Hitman 2018, Captured 2018, Leaving 2017, Morning Routine 2017). Festival winners will be announced on January 30, 2022 on our website. Winners of the Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Writer and Best Editor will have a chance to work with Luis Avilez and Zeliva Pictures production company on their next production.

International Diversity Film Festival 

The International Diversity Film Festival recognizes and showcases films and screenplays with a member of an underrepresented community included as one of the following: Lead Character OR Filmmaker (Director, Writer, or Producer). FILMS: The International Diversity Film Festival recognizes and showcases narrative and documentary features and shorts (including web episodes) in ALL genres. SCRIPTS: The International Diversity Film Festival recognizes and showcases feature screenplays, shorts, and television scripts. The International Diversity Film Festival was created to encourage content creators from unique backgrounds to share their stories/ The festival will promote the work of diverse (thought, race, gender, age, religion, physical ability and sexual orientation) filmmakers and recognize them globally for their achievements in film. Whether a finalist or not, all officially selected filmmakers will be invited to join us at the International Diversity Film Festival for screenings, networking, resources, collaboration, learning, partnerships and for our official premieres and awards ceremony blocks. The International Diversity Film Festival selections will be judged and decided on by award-winning independent filmmakers working in the industry. Women’s Comedy Film Festival In Atlanta 

The Women's Comedy Film Festival is a theatrical screening event in Atlanta for independent films featuring female filmmakers, actors, directors, writers and producers from all over the world. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase the talent of female directors, writers, actors, and everything in between right here in one of the world's fastest growing film communities. The Women's Comedy Film Festival also recognizes exceptional filmmaking and screenwriting with awards and nominations by our judging panel. Submit your film if you meet AT LEAST ONE of the following requirements:

Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival 

Alliance of Women Filmmakers (AWF) was established 17 years ago with a goal to provide a platform and resources for filmmakers creating unique and powerful roles for women. The organization produces the Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival (#lawomensfest) which has showcased hundreds of narratives, documentaries, animations, and student short films made by women from around the world. www.Lawomensfest.com. AWF has established a network of women filmmakers worldwide and studio executives who share the same passion for creating opportunities and powerful screen images of women. LAWomensFest provides participants a unique opportunity to engage with AWF’s online community to meet other amazing women filmmakers and form career lasting connections. California Women’s Film Festival (Winter) 

The California Women’s Film Festival is deeply honored to celebrate women filmmakers, artists and writers by providing a showcase and networking forum in the heart of Hollywood. The CWFF understands how important it is to hear and see the educated, entertaining and diverse stories of women from around the globe. We provide a platform so these voices can be heard and shared with audiences that want to be inspired. The California Women’s Film Festival accepts all projects that has at least one woman in one of the key production positions: (Producer, Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor, Lead Actress, Etc......). Projects that are produced and/or directed by men are accepted as long as there is a lead female protagonist and/or the story is based around women. The California Women's Film Festival operates as a biannual event. Our Winter season will be held in January and our Summer season will be held in July.

San Francisco International Film Festival 

SFFILM champions the world's finest films and filmmakers through programs anchored in and inspired by the spirit and values of the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1957, the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFFILM Festival) is the longest-running film festival in the Americas. Held each spring and highly anticipated by its loyal and passionate audiences, the Festival is refreshingly intimate for a festival of its size and scope, and traditionally combines a range of marquee premieres, international competitions, compelling documentaries, live music performances, and star-studded red carpet events. SFFILM is currently moving forward with planning its Festival for April 2022 with both in-person and online events, parties, talks and more. Exact dates, venue footprint, and in-person event structure are all subject to some change based on the realities of producing a safe and accessible film festival at that time.Opportunities for Filmmakers Since 1991, SFFILM Education’s Schools at the Festival program has provided the Bay Area educational community with the opportunity to experience stories from around the world. Schools at the Festival annually introduces thousands of students ages 6–18 and their teachers to international film and the art of filmmaking while promoting media literacy, deepening insights into other cultures, enhancing foreign language aptitude, developing critical thinking skills, and inspiring a lifelong appreciation of cinema. The Voice of A Woman Festival 

THE VOICE OF A WOMAN is a non-profit organisation, first founded in 2009, that has for over a decade played an important role in presenting the works of women filmmakers to public audiences internationally. Beirut International Women Film Festival

Beirut International Women Film Festival (BWFF) is an annual event organized in Beirut by Beirut Film Society, under the theme “Women for Change”; gathering filmmakers and cinema lovers from all over the world, BWFF tackles issues such gender equality, sexual identity, domestic violence among others through the power of the lens and cinema which is the window to society and particularly women in this case. BWFF, which comprises films about women and/or executed by women, aims to highlight the power of women in different life situations, the festival organizers believe in promoting a positive image of women struggling with dignity to make a change in their environment.

Shorts That are Not Pants Film Festival 

Established in 2012 as a quarterly screening series in Toronto, Canada, Shorts That Are Not Pants is now a festival weekend held each November.We've screened more than 400 films from more than 40 countries so far, and we're looking for more undiscovered gems to show our shorts-savvy Toronto audiences. Members of our programming team have experience working for some of the biggest and best festivals in the world (TIFF, Sundance, Hot Docs, Cannes) and travel to festivals around the world seeking out the best films and the brightest filmmakers to support.

The Festival was founded in late 2016 by filmmakers Vanessa Ionta Wright and Samantha Kolesnik. WIHFF is built on elevating marginalized voices. LA Independent Women Film Awards

LA Independent Women Film Awards focuses on international and U.S. film and script projects of all genres. The IMDb qualifying bi-monthly event recognizes projects with a female producer, director, lead actress, writer, cinematographer, editor, composer, etc. All topics related to women's thoughts, women's fate, life conditions, women's views and so on are welcome to participate.All the winners will be promoted through various online magazines in California and can request to receive certificates and laurels. All the winners can request for screening through our festival. Our mission is designed to help create a platform for our filmmakers to be seen, but more importantly, get them the industry exposure to help sustain their craft for many years to come. All the award winning artists of the bi-monthly categories are further nominated by our programmers in order be an official selection of the annual festival in October. The annual festival will be a hybrid event with online screenings, announcements and networking events for artists. The members of our jury will be award winning artists working in media from all over the world. All the award winners can request to be a jury member of a new edition of the festival in order to vote for one of the categories. Creative Screenwriting Unique Voices Competition 

We have teamed up with several creative partners looking for Features and TV Pilots with unique voices and original stories. Our goal with this contest is to discover great writers then connect their authentic stories to those creative partners, and we are looking for the best writing in all of these genres: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Family/Holiday/Young Adult, Mystery/Crime, Historical/Biopic, Horror/Thriller, Sci-Fi/ Fantasy, Sports and Western. We are genuinely looking for your unique perspective - with special consideration for Diversity, LGBTQ, Sports, Young Adult, Female Thrillers, Kaufman-esque Mind-Benders and original Holiday Stories, but there really is no limitation. Our focus is to build a slate of talented writers underrepresented in Hollywood today. Show us your most original work!

  • Scripts are accepted via the site or other 3rd party platforms in PDF form only. No printed materials are accepted.

  • Collaborative work is eligible; the writers are responsible for the distribution of the competition prize(s).

  •  The writer understands that a script analysis can take up to 90-days turn-around time and may not be received before the end of the contest.

  • Promotions must be used at the time of submission and will not be added to previous submissions.

  • Multiple entries are permissible.

  •  Once a script has been entered into the competition, we will only accept substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages if you contact us within 24 hours. After that, under no circumstances will we accept changes. If you wish to submit a revised draft of your script, you must enter it as a new submission and pay the appropriate entry fee.

o To honor Kate Spade’s legacy of empowering and inspiring women and girls, the National Council for Behavioral Health is excited to provide complimentary Mental Health First Aid trainings to communities throughout the five boroughs of New York City and New Jersey and in partnership with organizations that specifically support these populations. 

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

The National Council for Behavioral Health shares Kate Spade New York Foundation’s belief in “the power of women to transform their communities” through empowerment.  In support of this mission, we are offering through a competitive application process, select Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings, fully funded!

LMCC Manhattan Arts Grant: UMEZ Arts Engagement

UMEZ Arts Engagement is a grant program designed to enhance the diversity and frequency of arts and cultural presentations in Upper Manhattan. The program provides direct support for these activities to Upper Manhattan’s artists and nonprofit arts organizations under the guiding principle that support for artists of diverse disciplines, practices, cultural backgrounds, and career stages contributes to the vibrancy and sustainability of the communities in which they live and work. UMEZ Arts Engagement invites proposals from artists and arts organizations that are 1) based in Upper Manhattan and 2) presenting arts projects or programming serving Upper Manhattan between January 1–December 31, 2022. Program funding is provided by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZ). The UMEZ Arts Engagement program is administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC)

o Eligibility: Applications will be accepted for projects in any artistic discipline that meet the following requirements: Project must include a public component: an opportunity to access and engage with the arts that is promoted and available to the general public.

  • The public component may be a single or series of in-person presentations, activities designed to be experienced solely online, or a combination of in- person presentations with complementary online engagements. Please see the Application Tips for project examples.

  • Projects intended to be experienced solely online must offer an opportunity for live/synchronous or active audience engagement. If you are considering applying with this type of project, please contact LMCC staff prior to the deadline for additional guidance.

  • Public in-person activities of the project must be located in Upper Manhattan, defined as north of 98th Street on the east side of Fifth Avenue; and north of 110th Street on the west side. In the case of online programming, public activities must reach an Upper Manhattan audience as demonstrated by the outreach and promotional plans.

  • Project activities must take place between January 1 and December 31, 2022.

  • Project budget must show a UMEZ Arts Engagement request amount of no more
    than 75% of the total project budget. Other planned income sources may include cash or in-kind contributions. Please see the Application Tips and Project Budget Template for guidance in accurately calculating this percentage and developing a working, balanced budget.

  • All participating professional artists must be guaranteed a fee, indicated in the project budget. UMEZ and LMCC strongly encourage the use of funds toward artist fees and other project personnel.

  • Applicants may not be a lead artist or key partner in more than one proposal to UMEZ Arts Engagement.

  • Applicants may also apply to LMCC’s Creative Engagement program for the same or different project in the same fiscal year.

NYFA City Artist Corps Grants 

New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to partner with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), with support from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), to launch City Artist Corps Grants. City Artist Corps Grants is part of City Artist Corps, a new $25 million recovery initiative designed to help artists who were both hard hit by the pandemic and who may have been left out of other local and federal funding opportunities. City Artist Corps Grants are intended to support NYC-based working artists who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The program will distribute one-time $5,000 grants to over 3000 artists to help sustain their practice and engage the public across New York City’s five boroughs this summer beginning July. Artists working in any discipline are eligible to apply. City Artist Corps Grants applications and grant announcements will roll out over the summer in various cycles.  For all cycles, artists will be screened for eligibility and grant recipients will be selected by lottery. City Artist Corps Grants are administered in partnership with re-grant and arts service organizations to support outreach, provide technical assistance for prospective applicants, and inform the grantee selection process in service of the city’s diverse cultural communities. Partners include: Asian American Arts Alliance, A.R.T./New York, Black Public Media, Brooklyn Arts Council, Bronx Council on the Arts, Bronx Documentary Center, Dance/NYC, Firelight Media, Flushing Town Hall, Indie Theater Fund, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), MakerSpace NYC, New Music USA, Poets & Writers, Queens Theatre, and Staten Island Arts.

o Eligibility: Applicants must be current residents of New York City (5 boroughs) and have maintained residency since January 2020.

  • Applicants must be artists with a demonstrated sustained, ongoing creative practice in any creative discipline 

  • Applicants must provide documentation of their creative practice from anytime in the past 2 years (2019 and/or 2020).

  • Applicants must apply with a creative public engagement activity that meets the above criteria. Applicants can apply with an activity that is yet to be confirmed (in terms of presentation date and location). 

  • Artists can only apply once in each Cycle and can only receive one (1) grant through the City Artist Corps Grants program. 

  • Applicants can be past recipients of any of NYFA’s grant programs, including 2020/2021 COVID-19 Emergency Grants 

  • Applicants must be able to provide a W-9 with a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or EIN (after selection).

  • Applicants must be 21 years or older on of before June 8, 2021

  • A family member, friend or a support person may apply on behalf of an artist who is unable to complete the application on their own. 

  • Applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program

  • Applicants cannot be an employee of NYFA, the City of New York, or any partnering organization supporting the City Artist Corps Grants program. This includes board members of these organizations or an immediate family member to any of those listed.

  • All funded creative engagement activities must take place between July 10 and October 31, 2021

  • All grant recipients need to submit a final report by November 12, 2021

  • After reviewing applications for completeness and eligibility, qualifying applicants will be selected for funding via a lottery process. 

  • All eligible public engagement activities (with flexible activity dates) that are not selected in Cycle 1 will automatically be placed into the upcoming cycle lottery for selection. The applicant will not need to complete a new application form. 

  • Funded creative engagement activities and activity location, along with the applicant’s name may be made public throughout the duration of the program, by NYFA or the City.

  • Funds will be distributed in 2 installments:  

    • Installment 1 $4,000 – on selection

    • Installment 2 $1,000 – on successful completion of the final report. 

  • All funded creative engagement activities must be visually documented with a minimum of 2 photographs taken during the activity, with documentation provided in the final report.

Sloan Distribution Grant

The Sloan Distribution Grant is a $50,000 grant awarded by Film Independent to a film that is entering its distribution phase. Eligible films must depict themes, stories and characters grounded in real science, technology or economics.

o Eligibility: Applicants must be the producer of a narrative fiction feature film.The film should prominently feature science, mathematics and/or technology in the story and/or have a leading character that is a scientist, engineer or mathematician. Films with innovative marketing and distribution plans are encouraged to apply. All submitted films must be at least 70 minutes in length. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States. Film must be entering its distribution phase.

Panavision New Filmmaker Program

Panavision believes in helping students and beginning filmmakers achieve their dreams. More than 25 years ago, Panavision launched the New Filmmaker Program, an ongoing grant program that loans camera packages to film schools, training programs, and independent filmmakers – at little or no charge. Panavision’s commitment to the industry's future provides student and beginning filmmakers the opportunity to work with professional grade equipment early in their careers.

o Eligibility: Submit your proposals at least two months before you plan to shoot. Due to the high demand for Panavision cameras and equipment, it is essential that you plan ahead and contact us early.

Proposal materials will not be returned.

The New Filmmaker Program does not discriminate as to the nature of the project that can receive equipment grants. Any form, from experimental to documentary to musical to traditional narrative, is welcome.

Camera grants are available only for productions in the United States. Customs laws make transportation of cameras out of the US prohibitive. No exceptions.

The New Filmmaker Program will not allow cameras to be used on projects that perpetuate racial or sexual stereotypes and prejudices. Pornography is absolutely unacceptable.

Grant recipients must obtain insurance must from an outside insurance agent. Students can generally have the school issue the necessary policies. Plan ahead! This can take several weeks to implement. The process varies from school to school, so check with your film department. Productions that are not attached to a school must obtain the necessary insurance from an independent broker. Panavision must receive proof of insurance two weeks prior to prep dates. EQUIPMENT WILL NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING WITHOUT PROPER INSURANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Approved proposals are subject to a service fee for equipment.

Anamorphic lenses are not available via the New Filmmaker Program

Catapult Film Fund

Catapult Film Fund provides development funding to documentary filmmakers who have a compelling story to tell, have secured access to their story, and are ready to shoot and edit a piece for production fundraising purposes. Our mission is to enable filmmakers to develop their films to the next level at a moment where funding is hard to find.

o Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Catapult does not fund student films.

Documentaries must be 28 minutes or longer in length. We do not fund series.

Animation is okay. Documentary/narrative hybrids will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Development funds must specifically be used for the process of completing a fundraising piece, which may include writing, shooting and editing once story and characters are in place.

Applicants must own the copyright of their production, and have artistic, budgetary and editorial control over their project.

Applicants should preferably have previous film or television production experience in a principal role (director, co-director, producer, co-producer) as demonstrated by submitting a previously completed work sample.

Applicants who have not yet produced or directed their own feature length documentary should demonstrate that they will be working with an experienced filmmaker in a principal role.

Catapult only makes grants to 501(c)(3) organizations. In most cases, this will mean getting a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor for the project. A film production company or individual, including applicants from outside the US, may submit an application without a fiscal sponsor in place. Please see the FAQ section for more details.

Artist Rescue Trust 

The next evolution of the Artist Rescue Trust program is a partnership with Grant for the Web. They have awarded us a grant allowing us to directly fund more artists and help them educate anyone about Web Monetization as an emerging and potential revenue stream. One that doesn't rely on advertising, pay walls, and bad data privacy practices. It's an innovative way forward to help build a healthier internet.

Web Monetization is a new and open technology that aims to provide a better way to access and financially reward  creators through streaming micropayments - aka tiny fractions of a penny - to instantly flow to artists and creators as people read, watch and listen to their work.

While we want to support artists now with immediate financial assistance, we also want to help support the future financial opportunities for all artists. So this is why we’ve built a learning component into our grant application process. We will also be releasing a series of Web Monetization tutorials that will dive deeper into how you can make it part of your online world.
