We are excited to announce that our newest release, CODED BIAS (Dir. Shalini Kantayya), which was made with the support of WMM's Production Assistance Program, opened in theaters across the U.S. on November 18 after a successful premiere at the Metrograph last week. Called "the most cleareyed of several recent documentaries about the perils of Big Tech" by the New York Times, "insightful" by CNET, and predicted by VARIETY to be an Oscar contender for Best Documentary Feature, CODED BIAS reveals how the fights for racial and gender justice must be fought on the fields of AI and computer science. Recordings of panel discussions conducted last week are available to watch via WMM's blog. The film is available now for institutions to purchase and to book for virtual screenings, and the filmmaker, Shalini Kantayya, is available to book for Q&As!
After a successful theatrical run, WMM's acclaimed new release BELLY OF THE BEAST (Dir. Erika Cohn), an exposé of modern-day eugenics and reproductive injustice in California's women's prisons, is available for purchase and to book for screenings. A New York Times Critics Pick, called a "thrilling legal drama" by the LA Times, and predicted by VARIETY to be an Oscar Contender for Best Documentary Feature, BELLY OF BEAST is at once a heart-wrenching confrontation with human rights abuses and an inspiring story of human resilience. The filmmaker Erika Cohn, producers, and film participants are available for Q&As and film talk backs. To be broadcast on Independent Lens on Nov. 23. Check local listings to tune in or stream.
