With news of Emmy nominations, theatrical holdovers, and upcoming NYC screenings at MoMA, it's been a busy August at WMM. Here are some exciting things that we have going on!

DEEYAH KHAN'S WHITE RIGHT: MEETING THE ENEMY NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY

"I'm a woman of colour, I am the daughter of immigrants. I am a Muslim. I am a feminist. I am a lefty liberal. And what I want to ask you is: am I your enemy?"

One year ago this past weekend, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Muslim filmmaker Deeyah Khan found herself in the middle of the now-infamous Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville. Speaking with fascists, racists and proponents of alt-right ideologies including Richard Spencer, Khan was attempting to understand the personal and political motivations behind the resurgence of far-right extremism in the U.S. WHITE RIGHT: MEETING THE ENEMY is an urgent and personal look at race wars in America. Last week, WHITE RIGHT was nominated for an International Emmy and NBC News reported that Khan's meeting with Ken Parker, an ex-grand dragon of the KKK, was the beginning of a transformation that led to his denouncing of hate groups.

NEW ACQUISTION 93QUEEN

HELD OVER ANOTHER WEEK IN NYC

We're proud to announce the acquisition of Paula Eiselt's inspiring 93QUEEN, about a group of Hasidic women making history in their Brooklyn community.

In the Hasidic enclave of Borough Park, Brooklyn, EMS corps have long been the province of men. Though the neighborhood is home to the largest volunteer ambulance corps in the world, that organization has steadfastly banned women from its ranks. 93QUEEN follows Rachel "Ruchie" Freier, a no-nonsense Hasidic lawyer and mother of six who is determined to shake up the boys club by creating Ezras Nashim, the first all-female ambulance corps in NYC. 93QUEEN has been held over in New York at IFC Center for a third week and is expanding across the U.S. and Canada, as well as Israel later this year. The Los Angeles premiere is August 14- Ruchie Freier and director Paula Eiselt will be in attendance.

MICHELLE MEMRAN'S THE REST I MAKE UP WEEK LONG RUN IN NYC AT MOMA

María Irene Fornés is one of America's greatest playwrights and most influential teachers, but many only know her as the ex-lover of writer and social critic Susan Sontag. The visionary Cuban-American dramatist constructed astonishing worlds onstage and taught students how to connect with their imaginations. When she gradually stops writing due to dementia, an unexpected friendship with filmmaker Michelle Memran reignites her spontaneous creative spirit and triggers a decade-long collaboration.
