Parity Productions SYEP Pride Summer Intern and more!

Parity is thrilled to welcome their Summer SYEP Pride Intern, Elliot (they/them). 🎉

The NYC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) through the Department of youth and Community Engagement (DYCD) offers a special component called SYEP Pride for LGBTQ+ youth. This program provides participants who identify as LGBTQ+ with supportive, safe, and affirming work and career exploration experiences, alongside unique employment and learning opportunities, aiming to help youth overcome workplace challenges related to homophobia and transphobia.

About working with Parity, Elliot said:

"Parity's mission hits close to home for me, as a trans kid who has been knee deep in the theater world since I was little, and as an adult now dealing with the current political climate, I'm so happy to be working with Parity Productions to bring about change within the theater industry, and hopefully, through that, change in society."

Thank you to the NYC DYCD for making this possible, and welcome, Elliot!

On a more sobering note, The New Yorker released an article last week titled "Women Playwrights Lose the Limelight".

Helen Shaw's article exposes a troubling trend: major NYC theatres are backsliding on gender equity, with many 2025–26 seasons featuring few or no women playwrights, despite past progress and a robust pipeline of talent.

This reversal underscores why Parity Productions' mission is both urgent and complex. Our work to champion women, trans, gender-expansive, and intersex artists is not just about representation: it's about dismantling systemic, intersectional exclusion that continues to sideline entire communities.
