Submissions are now open for the 2025 Women in the Arts and Media Coalition Collaboration Awards 

Playwrights, Screenwriters, Directors, Actors, Filmmakers, Choreographers, Dancers, among other Disciplines Encouraged to Apply - Deadline, December 31, 2024

Women in the Arts & Media Coalition is proud to announce their call for submissions for the 2025 Collaboration Awards. Established in 2006, the $1,000 award and other honors are designed to encourage professional women from different arts and media disciplines to work together on the creation of a new artistic work. Artistic disciplines include but are not limited to playwrights, directors, composers, choreographers, filmmakers, actors, singers, and dancers.

Collaborative teams must be led by female members of the various Coalition arts & media associations, unions, guilds, affiliates, (full list below) or be individual members. While team participants may be of any gender, the two people submitting for the award must both identify as women and be from two different disciplines. 

Eligible teams may suggest any form of creative collaboration on a new work created since 2021 and which has had a public performance. Public performances may include, but are not limited to, a production, a workshop, a staged reading, a gallery show, a concert, etc. Public performances may be in person and/or virtual. Submissions will be judged on the basis of artistic excellence, diversity, and clarity. All topics and subjects will be considered. Special attention shall be given to projects that reflect the goals of the Coalition: to advance the voice and vision of women (women's work and women's issues). 

The winning team and the honorable mentions will be invited to an award ceremony in New York in Autumn, 2025. Also honored at this event will be an Acclaimed Collaboration Award winning project. 

Applicants must be members in good standing of a member organization, and/or an individual member of the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition. Member organizations are: Actors' Equity Association (AEA), Associated Musicians of New York Local 802 AFM (802), Dramatists Guild (DG), League of Professional Theatre Women (LPTW), New York Women in Communications (WICI), New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television & Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE). Women's Work Project 2024 

The WOMEN'S WORK LAB for short plays provides a supportive and nurturing environment to emerging and mid-career women playwrights while maintaining a rigorous feedback process that leads to production within six months. Six playwright members are selected each year, along with a similar number of directors. The LAB meets monthly (Sundays) from February through June, allowing for time in between sessions for writers to continue to develop and revise their work in response to specific feedback from the dramaturgical team. Members are expected to bring work to each session beginning with the development of an original short play BASED UPON AN ASSIGNED THEME. Monthly feedback from the dramaturgs focuses on the nuts and bolts of creating a 15-30 minute script ready for production. In a process unique to NPTC, feedback is given in a unified manner so playwrights do not have conflicting advice about what to work on, and so that the script moves forward according to NPTC's instructions as the producing entity. This approach creates a collaborative group from which members can draw inspiration and energy while modeling professional standards. Scripts are then produced in our ANNUAL WOMEN'S WORK SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL.

The Richard Rodgers Awards 2024

The Richard Rodgers Awards were created and endowed by Richard Rodgers in 1978 for the development of the musical theater. These awards subsidize full productions, studio productions, and staged readings by nonprofit theaters in New York City of works by composers and writers who are not already established in this field. The winners are selected by a jury of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Richard Rodgers Awards are the only awards for which the Academy accepts applications.

o Eligibility: The name(s) of the author(s) must not appear on any of the items submitted, with the exception of the application form. Include only the title of the work on the script and plot summary. Please be sure author names are not included in music file metadata.

  • Entry must include:Script with lyrics, in PDF format.

  • Half-page synopsis of the action and a list of characters, in PDF format.

  • A separate track sheet (PDF) of recorded songs with page numbers indicating where they appear in the script and specifying the total number of minutes recorded.

  • At least 45 minutes of music, including a minimum of eight songs. Orchestrations are not necessary; piano and vocals are sufficient. Songs must be numbered in sequence (e.g. 01 Song Title.mp3) and each song's lyrics clearly typed into the script where it appears. Tracks must be uploaded in the order they appear in the script.

  • Application form signed by all collaborators (see below). Applicants submitting work that has already been produced must give full information concerning these productions, including programs. A work is not eligible if one of the collaborators is deceased.

  • If applicable, a statement of intent declaring how the applicants would use the award if their musical is a winner. If the piece is already attached to producers or a theater, even if tentative, these associations must be declared here.

  • If the submitted work (or a portion thereof) is an adaptation of material which is not in the public domain, candidates must submit licenses, permissions, or authorizations necessary to permit the work to be produced in conformity with applicable copyright laws. The music must be original.

  • Applicants will be notified of the jury's decision by March 2023.

FLINT REPERTORY THEATRE NEW WORKS FESTIVAL 2025

Flint Repertory Theatre's New Works Festival is an annual weeklong event featuring staged readings and workshops of new plays and musicals. Playwrights and composers from around the country are in residence in Flint during the process, where audience members experience these new works before anyone else and meet the artists working to bring the future of American theatre to life.

The Dramatic Question Theatre 

(DQT) specializes in developing and presenting new plays by BIPoC and / or Female-identifying playwrights. We've three exciting programs:CLASSICS IN COLOR – This program facilitates the development of new plays by BIPoC that blend their lived experience with texts from the Global Canon. Up to 12 playwrights are selected based on their application materials. Led by OBIE Award winning playwright, Caridad Svich. PLAYTIME - This program facilitates the development of new plays by BIPoC and/or Female-identifying playwrights. Up to 12 playwrights are selected based on their application materials. Led by OBIE Award winning playwright, Carmen Rivera. AMERICAN WOMAN - This program facilitates the development of new solo shows by Female-identifying writers living in the U.S. Up to 12 playwrights are selected based on their application materials. Led by Latinidad Playwriting Award winner, Raquel Almazan. Each of these programs are free of charge and will convene over Zoom, on a weekly basis, for 8-consecutive weeks, between October and December. ABOUT US: DQT was founded in 2009 and is dedicated to developing and presenting plays by BIPoC and / or Female-identifying playwrights; all the while, cultivating and maintaining a multicultural audience to support them.

Agbowó seeks one-act plays for the December 2024 issue

We will consider one-act plays for publication with running times between 10 and 30 minutes. Submissions can explore any theme and can be genre-bending as well. We are open to new ideas so the plays can be experimental. The submission should have a maximum cast of 7 characters. There can be room for three minor characters with limited dialogues. Submissions should include a cover letter with a summary of the play, the name and location of the playwright, the running time, performance history (if it has been performed before), and awards (if it has won any awards). Submissions should be in Microsoft Word documents. Only finished scripts of one-act plays are acceptable. Do not submit drafts of works in process. Previously produced plays are welcomed. The play must be a complete one-act play, not a part of a larger work.  Please remember to indicate in your subject the issue to which you are submitting. Although we can only accept about 1% of the works submitted to Agbowo, we are always looking to spotlight the best of Africa's new writing. Our contributors have been shortlisted or have won the Brunel Prize, the Commonwealth Prize, the Caine Prize, and more.

Theatre Three 26th Annual Festival of One-Act Plays (2025)

Since its inception in 1998, The Festival has received over 10,000 submissions from across the world and produced 132 world premieres by 102 different playwrights. The Festival presents between five and seven plays each season. Playwrights will receive a $150 stipend. Playwrights will receive a standard Dramatists Guild-approved contract and will receive four complimentary tickets to be used at any performances. Playwrights are welcome to attend any rehearsals or performances. Playwrights will receive copies of playbills, postcards, articles, and reviews, as well as a link to all publicity and production photos. THEATRE THREE is responsible for all elements of production; playwrights incur no expenses. THEATRE THREE retains no future production rights.

Fade to Black

The inaugural Fade To Black Arts Festival is coming to Houston, June 8-14, 2025 and will attract thousands! The Ensemble Theatre will select ten celebrated playwrights who will receive a prestigious theatre reading across the city.

o Eligibility: The playwright must be the sole author of the submitted work.

  • The playwright must publicly and openly identify as African-American, Black, or of the African diaspora.

  • The author must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Previously published or produced work by the author is not allowed (See definitions below).

  • Play can have musical elements, but must not be categorized as a musical.

  • Play must not be written for children or youth.

  • Play must not be a film. Screenplays/scripts written for television or cinema will not be accepted.

  • The play must be a full-length work, typically ranging from 60 to 120 minutes in performance time.

  • The manuscript must be properly formatted according to industry standards (e.g., character names in all caps, stage directions in italics).

  • Each play submitted must be accompanied by a brief synopsis (one page or less) and a playwright biography (one page or less).

  • The play must be an original work and not an adaptation of another author's material unless the original work is in the public domain.

The Woodward/Newman Award

The Woodward/Newman Award is an exclusive honor offered by Constellation Stage & Screen, started through the support of Joanne Woodward, Newman's Own Foundation, and the Newman family, celebrating Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward's tremendous history of work on stage and screen. It presents the best unpublished play of the year with a cash prize of $3,000 and a full production as part of Constellation's Mainstage season. Please note that there are significant changes to our submission and selection process from previous years. In order to make the Woodward/Newman Award accessible to all, we have eliminated submission fees as wellhould have a complete running time of between 1 hour 15 minutes (75 minutes) to 2 hours 15 minutes (135 minutes). TYA shows should have a complete running time of over 40 minutes.

  • Plays submitted must be unpublished at the time of submission (independently published is acceptable).

City Theatre Seeks 10 Minute Plays for the Susan J Westfall National Short Playwriting Contest


City Theatre is looking for the best short plays from all over for our upcoming 2024-25 season that furthers our mission to identify, acknowledge, and award excellence in dramatic writing. Having produced hundreds of plays, we want scripts that are lively and timely, hilarious, provocative, poignant, and surprising. We look for plays that span style and genre. We will consider bilingual scripts and ten-minute musicals. We have no restriction on the age range of the characters. In other words, we are seeking compelling plays that rise above the ordinary. City Theatre seeks compelling plays that rise above the ordinary. Playwrights from across the country are invited to submit lively, timely, hilarious, provocative, poignant, and surprising scripts. We look for plays that span style and genre. We will consider bilingual scripts and ten-minute musicals. Blackboard Plays - Reading Series Submission

Founded in 2008, Blackboard Plays has been devoted to Black Playwrights throughout the African Diaspora.

People's Theatre Project Unite 2024 

Calling all vibrant voices from the Latiné, Black, Queer, and/or immigrant playwrights to share your powerful narratives!  People's Theatre Project (PTP) Playwright Unit 2024 invites established playwrights to submit a work-in-progress. Three playwrights will be chosen to develop One Act plays each under the mentorship of award-winning playwright Marco Antonio Rodriguez. The culminating plays will be showcased at PTP's One Act Reading Festival in December 2024.

Yale Drama Series 2025

The Yale Drama Series is seeking submissions for its 2025 playwriting competition. The winning play will be selected by the series' current judge, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the David Charles Horn Prize of $10,000, publication of their manuscript by Yale University Press, and a celebratory event. The prize and publication are contingent on the playwright's agreeing to the terms of the publishing agreement.

  • This contest is restricted to plays written in the English language. Worldwide submissions are accepted.

  • Translations, adaptations, musicals, and children's plays are not accepted.

  • The Yale Drama Series is intended to support emerging playwrights. Playwrights may win the competition only once.

  • Playwrights may submit only one manuscript per year. Only manuscripts authored by one playwright are eligible.

  • Plays that have been professionally produced or published are not eligible. Plays that have had a workshop, reading, or non-professional production or that have been published as an actor's edition will be considered.

  • Plays may not be under option, commissioned, or scheduled for professional production or publication at the time of submission.

  • Plays must be typed/word-processed and page numbered. Plays with images are not accepted.

  • The Yale Drama Series reserves the right to reject any manuscript for any reason.

Neurodivergent New Play Series 


Neurodivergent playwrights in NYC since 2023 - is accepting recurring submissions as we prepare for our 2024-25 Season.All submissions should be for full-length plays between 45 to 180 minutes long and may have received a previous reading or production outside of NYC, as long as they are unpublished. All neurodivergent/disabled writers (autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, OCD, Tourette's, etc.) at all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply - especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and female-identifying writers. There is no submission fee or any other fee for being involved in this process.

Talking It Out: A Virtual Festival in Support of Mental Health Awareness

The Talking It Out Virtual Arts Festival in support of mental health empowerment, is thrilled to be returning this Fall after a year-long hiatus! We are now accepting play submissions to be featured in our new ongoing series of live play readings in NYC and audio drama podcast to be featured worldwide. This year, we will be accepting submissions for short plays, (less than 20 minutes) one-act plays, (20-40 minutes) & full-length plays (60-120 minutes) of all genres, including comedy, drama, sci-fi, horror, experimental, etc. Plays will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with playwrights to be notified at least 3 months in advance of their proposed performance date.

Planet Female Global Storyfest

Planet Female Media embraces the female weavers of story from page to performance, screenplay to cinematic vision. This first year of the Planet Female Global StoryFest, Planet Female Media invites you, our dear sisters, to join our movement in a celebration of our Yin creativity, the divine tales and truths within us, and of our kindreds, all of which we access through living life, time and experience. She has something to say. We hear her. We have created a space for visual storytelling crafted by Women for Women and by those who identify as such. We are ethically mining the inexhaustible vault of feminine fable and fact to be shared, inspired by, and learned from. In this inaugural year, we will carefully review submissions and award the best in several categories. Having partnered with Manhattanville University in Westchester NY, a half hour drive/train from NYC and a 12 minute drive from White Plains Airport, submissions that stand out will be selected. People are more likely to go see a show than to read an unsolicited script - some industry people receive on average thousands of submissions per month. For our very first evening of shorts, we are seeking out four female, BlPOC playwrights whose works we will fully produce and present at a London venue to be determined. HHTC is looking to hear stories from Black and Brown women (in the broad sense of the term). The plays may be set in any era, they may tackle whatever subject you desire, the stories may even not centre Black/Brown women at all! We are quite simply looking to pick the brains of young, BIPOC female playwrights from all over the world and get a sense of how they feel about the world at large, or about very specific things in it. Nomad Theater 

Nomad Theatre seeks new unproduced short plays to be a part of our upcoming season! Our mission is to provide an immersive theatre experience by exposing audience members to eclectic and moving stories, taking theatre outside of a traditional theatre space and into site-specific locations. This year, we have three opportunities for playwrights to submit their original new short plays. Open to US playwrights, selected plays in our mainstage season receive a $15 honorarium ($40 for one-acts selected for By The Fireside) full production and a ticket to attend. The Tank Presents 

Each season, our The Tank Presents program serves hundreds of emerging artists as they create over 1000 performances of new works in music, theater, film, dance, comedy, and storytelling. As part of our mission to remove the economic barriers from the creation of new work, we never charge our artists to use our space for their performances! In addition, we also provide free rehearsal space, as well as free marketing and promotion of their event. Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest 

To encourage the development of quality theatrical materials for the educational, community and children's theatre markets, Pioneer Drama Service is proud to sponsor the annual Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest.

This is an ongoing contest, with a winner selected by June 1 each year from all eligible submissions received the previous year.  All eligible plays accepted for publication will be considered contest finalists, from which the winner will be selected.  The contest winner will receive a $1,000 royalty advance in addition to publication.

LMCC Manhattan Arts Grant: UMEZ Arts Engagement

UMEZ Arts Engagement is a grant program designed to enhance the diversity and frequency of arts and cultural presentations in Upper Manhattan. The program provides direct support for these activities to Upper Manhattan's artists and nonprofit arts organizations under the guiding principle that support for artists of diverse disciplines, practices, cultural backgrounds, and career stages contributes to the vibrancy and sustainability of the communities in which they live and work. UMEZ Arts Engagement invites proposals from artists and arts organizations that are 1) based in Upper Manhattan and 2) presenting arts projects or programming serving Upper Manhattan between January 1–December 31, 2023. Program funding is provided by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZ). The UMEZ Arts Engagement program is administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC)

Creative Engagement is an arts funding program that provides seed grants to individual artists and nonprofit organizations for projects and activities that offer Manhattan communities diverse artistic experiences. Each year, the program supports over 150 arts projects in Manhattan, including concerts, performances, public art, exhibitions, screenings, festivals, workshops, readings and more. Through this grant program LMCC will award over $500,000 for projects serving communities from Inwood to the Battery taking place between January 1–December 31, 2023. The program funding provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs' Greater New York Arts Development Fund, and the New York State Council on the Arts' (NYSCA) Statewide Community Regrants (formerly the Decentralization program).

To help connect writers to therapists, DGF has partnered with Advekit, an online therapist matching service, to expand access to mental health support that might be out of your reach.

The NYC DCLA is dedicated to supporting and strengthening New York City's vibrant cultural life. Among our primary missions is to ensure adequate public funding for non-profit cultural organizations, both large and small, throughout the five boroughs.

This creative curated rental program has allowed many upstart companies and emerging artists to realize their full artistic vision on a small budget. The program provides subsidized performance and rehearsal space, technical assistance, and administrative support, including a fully staffed box office. SubletSeries@HERE artists can also access equipment that is not typically available in venues our size such as video projectors, wireless microphones, color scrollers—all for free or at subsidized rates. New Harmony Writers Residencey 2025 

The New Harmony Project is a national arts organization whose mission is to nurture writers in the development of scripts and new works that interrogate the complexity of hope. Through artist-centered programming, we care for writers so they can change the world. THE 2025 WRITERS' RESIDENCY: This year, through our open selection process, we're seeking storytellers who are interested in an artist-centered residency that will provide a creative and nurturing environment, supportive artistic community, and dramaturgical resources in a bucolic setting. These residencies will not include a full developmental workshop with actors and a creative team, but there will be opportunities to hear your work out loud in informal settings. At the 2025 residency, we will also be supporting 3 Productions in Residence selected in collaboration with partner organizations outside of the open selection process. These projects will be receiving a full developmental workshop with actors and a creative team, but will be shorter in duration. Writers cannot apply for the Productions in Residence program.

The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers Fellowship 2024

The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers supports projects that draw on the research collections of The New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building (formerly the Humanities and Social Sciences Library). The Center seeks top-quality writing from academics as well as from creative writers and independent scholars. Visual artists whose projects require extensive use of Library collections are also encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will need to work primarily at the Schwarzman Building rather than at other divisions of the Library. Fellowships will not be granted for academic projects to post-doctoral fellows or to applicants doing graduate-school dissertation research.The Center seeks diversity in race, ethnicity, age, gender, field, and type of project.
