Bluestocking Film Series
Taking place annually in the summer in beautiful Portland, Maine, Bluestocking Film Festival is an exclusive showcase for high-quality, provocative short fiction films featuring complex female protagonists driving the story and leading the action. All short film submissions *must have a female main character* and also *pass the Bechdel-Wallace Test* (include at least 2 or more female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man). There are NO exceptions to these rules!
For its 8th season, Bluestocking returns to Maine and will premiere two nights of female-driven short films on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4, 2018. After that, 8 selected films from the 2018 film slate will hit the road to reach new audiences and to build capacity with lovers of great female-driven films, wherever they may be. LA Underground Film Forum (LAUFF) is Los Angeles's premier showcase of experimentation in film, video and audio based mediums. It focus on avant-garde, art-house, independent and no/low budget filmmaking, with the third edition taking place in November 2018, Los Angeles. Our program provides a venue for filmmakers to reinvent and explore new approaches, to foster new forms of media art and to build an audience for such work. We aim to present a wide range of work exploring the many definitions and interpretations of the concept of “underground”.

- Eligibility: Length: Films need to be 40 minutes or less. We prefer most films sit on the shorter end of that spectrum—the average film we feature is 10 minutes. The longer your film (over 15 minutes), the tougher judges we tend to be. Premiere Status: No premiere status is required, however, we give preference to films that haven’t yet premiered online. So, don’t wait to submit your film. Rights: We require films to have all necessary rights and releases secured for us to feature them. Yes, this includes music. Established in 2012, Shorts That Are Not Pants is a quarterly screening series for short films that takes place in Toronto, Canada. Screenings take place in January, April, July, and October. We've screened more than 150 films from 26 countries so far, and we're looking for more undiscovered gems to show our shorts-savvy Toronto audiences. Members of our programming team have experience working for some of the biggest and best festivals in the world (TIFF, Sundance, Hot Docs) and travel to festivals around the world seeking out the best films and the brightest filmmakers to support.
Established in 2012, Shorts That Are Not Pants is a quarterly screening series for short films that takes place in Toronto, Canada. Screenings take place in January, April, July, and October. This project celebrates the idea of adoring a woman's sensuality, using it to channel spiritual awakening as well. Note: Do not submit if you are uncomfortable with the subject matter. Filmmaker states: "Do not submit unless you have reviewed all requirements and watched the video posted on this breakdown to fully understand the demands of the project. The Digital Bolex Grant for Women Cinematographers offers approximately $10,000 worth of gear and accessories loaned on a rolling basis to any narrative short, music video, or feature film project to be shot by a female cinematographer. Recipients of the grant receive a loaned camera package for up to 21 production days.

Likewise, active professionals benefit from a lively community consisting of support, creative exchange, and resources that would not be available to them as solo artists working from their homes. In addition to our regular workshops, internships, and volunteer opportunities, NW Documentary offers the Artist-in-Residence program to fulfill this need.
