THEMATIC THURSDAYS CRACKS IN THE WALL
On Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 7PM in Clarke Hall, Park Avenue United Methodist Church launches a new themed series for artists of all types.
Artists are asked to submit original work (visual, performance, or literary) that relates to the theme “Cracks in the Wall.” The work should be created with the theme in mind and though it does not need to be pertaining to spirituality, it does need to be in good taste for a religious setting.
Chosen work will be presented in Clarke Hall (106 East 86th Street, 3rd floor, NYC) to the public. Proceeds go towards Park Avenue Youth Theater Scholarships. Tickets are on sale: http://bit.ly/2o8RkMT

- Eligibility: 30 - 60 min. long. Short plays are the mainstay of MITF: Summer and will be given preference in selection over Full-lengths. (30-45 minute plays are the most desirable of all). Easy to produce in a no-frills festival. Any genre. (Plays using guns as props will not be considered). Union and Non-Union shows accepted. Plays must be sent in Word Document or PDF File. Pages MUST be numbered and script must be in standard playscript format. For the full-length category we are looking for: Plays 61-90 min. long. Any genre. Full-length musicals can be up to 120 min. long. Full-length plays and musical using guns as props are accepted. Variety: The variety division spans cabaret, magic, improv, sketch comedy, standup, and burlesque. Acts can be solo or group affairs, so long as they fit within an hour, including setup and strike, and so long as they bring their own music director and so forth. The Festival provides a keyboard and amp for any Variety Show, if needed. SPL's: The Short Play Lab has 2 programs of about 10 short plays each (not to exceed 10 min. in length, the shorter plays receive preference in selection). Each program is performed twice

The MTB Audio Drama Scriptwriting Competition celebrates good old-fashioned storytelling with a $250 first prize and $100 second-place prize. All genres considered and authors retain all script rights. The best tip the judges have for entrants is to be sure your play is truly an audio drama. Close your eyes and imagine hearing what you have put on the page. Is that enough to engage the listeners in the story and to make them truly understand what is going on? The competition frequently gets scripts with stage directions still in them. This is obviously not audio drama. The key to a good audio drama is to use narration and dialogue to let listeners know what they should be "seeing." This can truly be a visual medium if written correctly.
